Even though grass grows so nicely here in Portland it needs constant maintenance to look its best all year. Moss is a problem that we deal with all of the time and most lawns could benefit from an annual moss killing and thatching. It is important that the dead moss be removed from the lawn so that it will not return. The lawn should then be over seeded and fertilized so that new grass will fill in the bare spots left by the moss. Using the proper seed when over seeding is also important. Using a seed meant for full sun in a shady area will not give you the desired result, and there are many types of shade seed for specific amounts of shade. Applying lime in the winter is helpful to lower the ph of your soil to a range that will help your lawn stay healthy.
When the existing turf can’t be saved more drastic measures are sometimes needed. Often times you can simply spray out the old lawn, thatch out the dead grass, and seed or lay sod for the new lawn. Sometimes it is necessary to amend or remove existing soil and import new soil to help facilitate a nice new lawn. We can help you assess what is the best course of action for your lawn.
LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING
Like every other part of the landscape low voltage lighting need regular maintenance to stay in proper working order. Low voltage landscape lighting systems need to be repaired as they start to fail weather it’s a burned out bulbs, a worn out photo cell, or a bad wire connection. Once a system has been ignored for too long, it becomes harder to troubleshoot and repair. We can diagnose premature bulb burnout, overloaded wiring, and possible retrofits to LED lighting to solve voltage problems.
